PP Mats Wholesale: A Buyer's Guide to Sourcing Polypropylene Mats from India
Polypropylene (PP) mats are one of the easiest outdoor products to stock in volume. They are light, washable, UV resistant and reversible, and they sell across garden, camping, beach and home categories. If you are planning to buy PP mats wholesale, the supplier you choose matters more than the catalogue you browse.
This guide explains what PP mats are, what to specify, how wholesale terms usually work, and what to check before you place your first order with a manufacturer in India.
What are PP mats?
PP mats are woven from polypropylene straws, which are extruded, coloured and then woven into flat mats on looms. Jacquard looms allow detailed patterns and reversible designs. The result is a mat that does not absorb water, dries quickly and can be cleaned with a hose.
Common wholesale categories include:
Patio and garden mats for decks, balconies and terraces. See our patio mats.
Camping and RV mats for awnings, tents and caravans. See our camping and RV mats.
Beach and picnic mats that fold small and shake clean. See our beach and picnic mats.
Relief and multipurpose mats for prayer halls, community events and emergency use. See our relief mats.
Why buy PP mats wholesale from India?
India has a long tradition of woven floor coverings and a mature PP mat industry. For importers, wholesalers and retailers, the main advantages are:
Vertical integration. Strong manufacturers extrude and colour their own PP straws and weave in-house, so they control colour, thickness and consistency.
Design range. Jacquard weaving makes custom patterns practical, not just stock designs.
Export experience. Established exporters understand labelling, barcodes, packing standards and buyer compliance checks.
Scale. Multi-plant factories can run several designs at once and support repeat programmes through the year.
What to specify in a wholesale enquiry
A clear brief gets you a faster and more accurate quotation. Include:
Sizes. Typical wholesale sizes run from small 3 × 5 ft mats to large 9 × 20 ft RV mats.
Weight (GSM). GSM affects feel, durability and pack size. Most woven PP mats fall between 300 and 600 GSM, depending on size.
Designs and colours. Send reference images, Pantone codes or pick from the supplier’s range.
Material. Decide between virgin PP and recycled PP. If you need recycled content claims, ask for GRS certification.
Finishing. Edge binding, fringes, carry straps or handles.
Labels and packing. Swing tags, inserts, barcodes and the outer packing method.
Quantity and timing. Quantity per design, total order size and the date you need the goods at your port.
Understanding wholesale terms
Minimum order quantity (MOQ)
Most PP mat manufacturers set an MOQ per design so that each loom set-up is efficient. At Streamflow, the MOQ is 500 pieces per design. You can usually combine several designs in one shipment.
Lead time
Production time depends on the number of designs, sizes and the factory’s schedule. Streamflow’s lead time is 30–45 days, depending on the order. Add time for sampling, approvals and sea freight when you plan your season.
Samples
Always approve a physical sample before bulk production. Many suppliers charge for samples. At Streamflow, samples are paid, and the sample cost is credited against your first order.
Incoterms and ports
The two most common terms for PP mats are FOB and CIF. Under FOB, the price covers delivery onto the vessel at the Indian port and you arrange the sea freight. Under CIF, the supplier also arranges freight and insurance to your destination port. Streamflow ships FOB Nhava Sheva (JNPT) or CIF.
Packing
Export packing protects mats and keeps freight costs down. A common method is to pack each mat in a poly bag and then pack the mats in HDPE bales. Ask your supplier how many pieces fit per bale and per container for your sizes.
How to compare PP mat suppliers
Before you commit, check these points:
Do they make the mats themselves? Ask about extrusion, colouring and weaving. A trading company may not control quality.
Certifications. Look for GRS certification if you sell recycled products, and ask whether the factory is a Sedex member.
Track record. Years in business, export awards and trade fair attendance are good signs of a stable exporter.
Communication. Fast, clear replies during the enquiry stage usually mean smoother production.
Quality checks. Ask how they check colour, size, GSM and finishing before packing.
