What is a PP mat?

A PP mat is a floor covering woven from polypropylene (PP) straws. At Streamflow, we extrude the straws in-house from virgin or recycled polypropylene, colour them and weave them on Jacquard looms into patterned mats and rugs. Because we extrude, colour and weave in-house, colour, weight and size stay consistent across a bulk order. The result is a mat that is:

  • Lightweight: easy to lift, roll and carry

  • Reversible: many designs can be used on both sides

  • Washable: clean with water and leave to air-dry

  • UV resistant: made to hold up in sunlight

  • Suitable for indoor and outdoor use

Virgin or recycled polypropylene?

Both options are woven the same way, on the same looms. Choose virgin polypropylene for your design and colour requirements, or recycled polypropylene — including straws made from cleaned, shredded and re-extruded PP containers and bottles — under our GRS (Global Recycled Standard) certification. Tell us your market and sustainability requirements, and we will recommend the right material. More on our Materials and Sustainability pages.

PP mats for every use

One material, many uses. Our PP mats serve as finished outdoor rugs for patios, balconies and gardens; patio mats for outdoor living and dining areas; camping & RV mats for awnings, campsites and caravans; beach & picnic mats for beaches, parks and outdoor events; and relief mats for relief and utility use. Indoors, they suit homes and utility areas where a lightweight, washable floor covering is needed.

Sizes, GSM & construction

We make PP mats from 3×5 ft to 9×20 ft, including custom sizes within this range, at 300–600 GSM depending on size. GSM is the weight of the mat per square metre: within our range, a higher GSM gives a heavier mat, and a lower GSM gives a lighter, more portable one. Many designs are reversible, so the same mat can be used on both sides. All our mats are washable and UV resistant.

Made to your specification

Every PP mat we make can be customised in design, colour, size and shape — from simple stripes and bold geometrics to florals and classic patterns. Choose virgin or recycled polypropylene, and add your own labels and packaging through our private label service.
